A December Buying Trip to London!

Pimlico, London

I'll start in one of my favorite places to shop for art and antiques, Pimlico. "Wild at Heart" sets in the center of Pimlico square. I always stop by for inspirational photos. You will often see many of our ads attached to one of their creations. Their sumptuous floral displays never disappoint, even in the middle of a cold English winter!

A nice crisp December day. The Caroler's singing in the background whilst the Christmas Elves work away!

This amazing armoire was an amazing find for me.  I've  been working on a gentleman's bedroom design and needed an eye catching, yet functional, wardrobe. My husband nodded in agreement. The inside sports black and white ticking detail, very masculine indeed.  Pimlico is the place to find true British craftsmanship combined with a little posh whimsey!

We're bundled up and on our way to Sloane Square in the heart of Chelsea.

As I came upon busy Sloan Square, I spied an interesting "cookery" store called David Mellor. I loaded up on these Italian large and small glass bowls, which are perfect for tea light candle holders. They could be used for various things but I'm thinking they'll be perfect for some subtle Christmas sparkle in a client's home.

Ok its time to stop for hot tea and fresh baked raspberry scone, right?

After a quick a taxi we arrived at one of my favorite streets for Art in Chelsea, Walton Street. My favorite gallery there is the Stephanie Hoppen Gallery.  She features one of my favorite Spanish artists, Maria Torroba. I dream about one day designing an entire room around one of her many magnificent works.

Chelsea Textiles was next on my list. They are know mostly for their amazing fabrics but I got really excited about their new furniture line that mixes sleek paint finishes with traditional design.

This is what Chelsea Textiles does best. Down the winding stairs I saw this chair.  It beckoned me to sit and have yet another tea but it's 4 o'clock outside and almost dark. I was here to see if they have any samples of Kit Kemp's newly designed fabrics, which you might see some more in future blog posts :)  Tomorrow is another fun filled day on the hunt please join me for London Buying Part II...

Summer in St Barts

As temperatures rise in the summer prices go down on the picturesque island of St Barts in the caribbean. Perhaps only in Montreal can you find such a quintessential French community in North America, but we're not complaining as St Barths serves as the perfect place to quench our thirst for the South of France. What better place is there for French Cottage inspiration than a vibrant, color boasting island filled with loads of character and old world charm?

Some of us flew in...

And some of us sailed in through the Caribbean waters...

And finally we arrived on the breathtaking island.  We rented a house overlooking Gustavia...let's just say the view was pretty much unparalleled.

View at Dusk

In addition to the breathtaking views, we found the vibrant colors the caribbean always promises combined with a distinct French flair all around the island.

While the colors of the houses were both vibrant and daring, we found furniture that was equally as audacious. The french designs combined with the vibrant Caribbean colors are perfect for a beach house.

Of course any design is unrivaled by mother nature's and we basked in her glory every day we were there.

What We Took Away:

Besides a new obsession with macaroons, the colors of St Barts were undeniably the most influential aspect of the island. From the creamy blue skies to the shocking yellow trim on doors it was impossible to feel pale on this vacation. Look out for bright accent pieces paired with that French bleu we've always loved!
